Kitchen Designs

I love this one! I have never seen black cabinets before, and the lemons on the counter are great!
What a fabulous idea, a built in bench! I like the modern/country feel this one has.

This is another favorite, you usually don't see the black and white combination outside of the modern feel. Not sure what style this is considered....

A little baking....

I have felt fall in the air the last few mornings, and with my "oatmeal cookie" candle burning the other day I found myself in the mood to do some baking. So, I tried a couple new items:

Lemon/Poppy Seed Bread
Blueberry Muffins
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip/Carmel Bars

The bread was a perfect combination, just enough lemon for a "fresh" taste, and very moist.
I must say the bars were very good (rich), and the oatmeal was a good addition.

I enjoyed my baking adventure, and plan on doing some more soon. I am not ready to admit that summer is almost to a close, so I will savor the last little bit of sunshine.
Happy Labor Day weekend......hope you are able to enjoy some time outdoors before we are all trapped inside for winter!

Babies!

We were blessed this evening to have a little baby time. My nephew spent a few hours with us tonight. He is getting so big, and starting to smile. I love when babies start to show their little personalities. Thanks, Marcy!

Date Night.

Ben and I try to get away every once and a while and get in a "date". Mercie was with Ben's sister tonight, so we went out for a little one on one time. We made our way downtown to try a new little restaurant, Scratch. Everything is made from scratch, and completely natural.

Dinner was great, and tonight was 1/2 price wine by the bottle. I love going out with my husband, even if it's just for a little dinner.

Decorating

Ben and I are going to hopefully start building our house this fall. I am already "decorating" the house in my head. Building from the ground up is so exciting, but also overwhelming. It helps that I have walked through a lot of houses, and have seen a lot of the options in an actual house, just not a swatch or small square. Still the choices we make we will be staring at them for the next 3,5 or more years! So, even though it is early, I want to be well informed of the choices I have and know what the "plan" is so when the time is right I will know exactly what to do.

I have started in Mercie's room.....I have always thought that my little girl would have a "princess" room. I am drawn to the shabby chic style, with a little more modern twist. I love the big fluffy comforter accented with a quilt, and pillows galore! These are just some pictures of what I am thinking. I would love to know if anyone has any ideas, or pictures you have seen.

Projects

Well, lately I have added these little projects for myself. We are currently renting this little house, and are starting the process of buying/building a home. We just signed another lease, so maybe the thought of being here longer made me "fix things up"...who knows.....Anyways, we now have an office. This room used to be a "don't know where to put this, these clothes need to be folded, people are coming over clean up" room. I must say, I have been enjoying it. It feels good to have a space in the house that can be used now. So, back to my project. First of all the walls were all plain boring white, except for one that was an ugly royal blue, so I had to primer that wall 3 times, and paint it twice. I picked up a buttery yellow, called "sugar cookie", and of course a beautiful chocolate brown as an accent.

For my desk. I saw a table that I just loved at Pottery Barn. I was tempted to purchase, but came back to reality and realized that a desk is never worth that much! Ben found a table that has been sitting down in the basement. So, I got out a sander and started (what is wrong with me?!). I must say I am very impressed with the results. For just the cost of paint, I now have an almost PB table.

7 candles

My baby is 7! Caleb turned 7 August 9th. We were in Seattle for my uncles funeral, but Caleb did not complain once that the day was not completely focused around him. Troy and Kylie got him the perfect cake (thanks!). It may not have been the perfect birthday, but I think he still had a good day.

Memories

Well, this is a new thing for me. I am excited to start something new. I use "myspace" and "facebook", but this allows me to really stop and write about thoughts from the day. So, here I am.

This last weekend my family and I drove to Seattle. My uncle recently passed away, and the family got together to celebrate his life. His passing has really caused me to stop and realize that there are so many things that I take for granted. I guess this is probably a common thing that happens when a loved one passes away suddenly. The difference for me is that it has really made me stop and think about where I am and where I am going. My uncle embraced life and lived it to the fullest. It was really hard to see my aunt without her other half. They were amazing together, it only took a second to see the love between them. Now, she is here without her husband. Some things I just don't understand, he was only in his 50's. They still had so many more things they wanted to do, and experience together. So often I let "life" distract me thinking that I have so much more time. What if I don't? Will people think of me as someone who enjoyed life, and lived it out to it's fullest? Do I take time to enjoy the little things?
Thank you, Ric, for your life. For your love, your faith, thank you for your example. Thank you that you showed me and so many that a life fully devoted to God, is a life worth living. Love you uncle Ric, you will truly be missed.
